Chef hack: freeze your steak before slicing ❄️ 🥩   Chef hack: freeze your steak before slicing ❄️ 🥩

A quick blast in the freezer makes it easier to get those paper-thin slices that give Philly cheesesteak its signature texture.

Chef Liv used this technique while making Philly cheesesteak-stuffed peppers for one of our clients.
This Juneteenth, we’re honoring the legacy of Edna This Juneteenth, we’re honoring the legacy of Edna Lewis by making her quintessential peach cobbler recipe. What a joy that peaches are now coming into season 🍑

This year marks the 50th anniversary of The Taste of Country Cooking, her landmark cookbook that is widely considered the canon on Southern cooking. As a personal note from our chef team, we absolutely love that it’s organized by season and emphasizes cooking without waste. Speak to our hearts, Edna! 🧡

Often called the “Grande Dame of Southern Cooking,” Lewis helped preserve and celebrate the rich traditions of Black American foodways at a time when they were too often overlooked. As chefs, food lovers, and parents, we believe it’s important to share not only recipes, but also the histories and people behind them. These stories remind us that American cuisine has always been shaped by many hands, traditions, and communities.
Have you met Chef Christian? Chef Christian was b Have you met Chef Christian?

Chef Christian was born and raised in Cincinnati, where he developed a lifelong love for the city’s parks and signature chili.

Growing up with chef parents, cooking has been a constant throughout his life. Some of his earliest memories include helping prepare elaborate Thanksgiving feasts for his family.

Since joining our team, Christian has embraced the personal chef role. You can usually find him working with our in-home clients and at dinner parties. He especially loves the variety that comes with personal chef work, where no two clients, menus, or celebrations are exactly alike.

Outside the kitchen, Christian enjoys traveling and collecting music from around the world.

“If you have more than you need, build a longer ta “If you have more than you need, build a longer table, not a taller fence.”

This is the guiding principle behind Big Table Farm Cooperative. Their sliding-scale CSA allows these three women farmers to support both their community and their business. It’s the foundation of their work, and it’s a value that guides our work at Goosefoot, too.

We believe in investing in the communities where we live, including prioritizing partnerships within our local food system, so that everyone can have a longer table.

Helen, thank you for everything you’ve brought to this team: hard work, reliability, humor, and the most streamlined dish-cleaning operation possible in our little kitchen.

Join us in wishing her a new chapter of happiness, adventure, sweet AND savory, plus plenty of her favorite things (which still includes cabbage).

It’s growing season here in our little corner of t It’s growing season here in our little corner of the world, and we’re sharing stories from the farms and growers behind our ingredients.

First up: Big Table Farm Cooperative, where Mary Kate is farming on soil built over generations.

More than 100 years ago, farmers on Wooden Shoe Hollow Lane hauled vegetables downtown by wagon, then returned from Cincinnati’s stockyards with hog manure to replenish the fields. They didn’t call Cincinnati “Porkopolis” for nothing.

That practice helped build the rich, nutrient-dense soil still visible today. Through careful stewardship, Farmer Mary Kate continues the long tradition of giving back to the land.
For AAPI Heritage Month, we asked Chef Marissa abo For AAPI Heritage Month, we asked Chef Marissa about the ingredients that show up in a Filipino kitchen year-round.

Turns out the answer is… fish sauce.

Chef Marissa also shared how rice is a staple in the pantry, and how the smell of onions and peppers cooking still reminds her of childhood.

What’s the “fish sauce” of your kitchen?
