It’s growing season here in our little corner of t It’s growing season here in our little corner of the world, and we’re sharing stories from the farms and growers behind our ingredients.

First up: Big Table Farm Cooperative, where Mary Kate is farming on soil built over generations.

More than 100 years ago, farmers on Wooden Shoe Hollow Lane hauled vegetables downtown by wagon, then returned from Cincinnati’s stockyards with hog manure to replenish the fields. They didn’t call Cincinnati “Porkopolis” for nothing.

That practice helped build the rich, nutrient-dense soil still visible today. Through careful stewardship, Farmer Mary Kate continues the long tradition of giving back to the land.
For AAPI Heritage Month, we asked Chef Marissa abo For AAPI Heritage Month, we asked Chef Marissa about the ingredients that show up in a Filipino kitchen year-round.

Turns out the answer is… fish sauce.

Chef Marissa also shared how rice is a staple in the pantry, and how the smell of onions and peppers cooking still reminds her of childhood.

What’s the “fish sauce” of your kitchen?

Versions of stuffed eggs have been around for centuries. And we’re here for the hype.

We’re sharing three of our favorite takes: beet-pickled, herb & goat cheese, and topped with bacon 🥓

Perfect for summer gatherings, cookbook clubs 😉, and any excuse to bring a tray of snacks somewhere.

What is the Open Door Free Fridge?
Opened in 2022 What is the Open Door Free Fridge?

Opened in 2022, the Open Door Free Fridge is a 24/7 outdoor fridge and pantry stocked by Open Door Ministries, a network of neighbors, volunteers, and local organizations. It’s simple: take what you need, leave what you can.

Because our kitchen is right here, we’re able to stay closely connected by keeping it stocked with donations from week to week. In addition, once a season our team (with the help of volunteers!) prepares and stocks 100 nourishing meals.

This space is sustained by a whole community showing up, and we’re grateful to be part of it.

If you’d like to get involved, the link to sign up for our next Free Fridge cook day on 5/30 is in our bio.

ICYMI: Chef Maggie was a guest this week on @jonjo ICYMI: Chef Maggie was a guest this week on @jonjononair’s Tasty Tuesday segment with @forkcincinnati. We talked about all things Earth Day, sustainability, and our mission to support our local food systems.

Inevitably, when three parents of toddlers get together, the topic always seems to make its way to kid food. More to come on that!
Sustainability isn’t just something we think about Sustainability isn’t just something we think about once a year. It’s something we live and cook by. From the ingredients we choose to the way we deliver our meals, we’re deeply committed to caring for the planet, our bodies, and our shared future.

A core value at Goosefoot Cook and Grow is practicing sustainability in all its forms: honoring the health of our bodies, supporting wellness in our communities, and tending to the wellbeing of the earth. Happy Earth Day!

We were thrilled to co-host this month’s Chef & Co We were thrilled to co-host this month’s Chef & Coffee. Chefs and chef-adjacent folks spent the morning connecting and building community, all while noshing on Chef Marissa’s Filipino breakfast, tapsilog.

Discussion topics ranged from kitchen culture and leadership (with a little René Redzepi in the mix). We also had a chance to give a quick tour of the Goosefoot kitchen.

A special thanks to @chefandcoffeecincy for the work they do to support and strengthen the culinary community.
